I have chosen my ad, and it is actually none of the ads I thought I would be doing in the last post. I was looking through the Google Drive folder, and I found an ad that I think I like more than any of the three that I last talked about, and feel as if I will have more to talk about using this ad, rather than the others. The ad I am choosing is the Gatorade boxing ad. Gatorade is one of my favorite companies, and one of my favorite drinks. I feel as if this ad will be a good fit for me and this paper.

This ad has a lot, if not all of the traits that we talked about in class. I think i will be able to talk about these traits a lot throughout the paper, and this will make the paper an easy one to write. I am excited to start writing this paper, and I feel like I will really enjoy it, especially because I get to talk about a company that I am familiar with, and I enjoy their products.

Two Companies I support: Nike, Playstation

Two Companies I hate:

Memorable ads: Nike Colin Kaepernick ad, Nike Just Do It

I think the Nike ad with Colin Kaepernick could be used, because their was a lot of controversy surrounding it. Out of context it looks like Nike is supporting the whole Kaepernick kneeling thing with the NFL, which they probably are, but if you actually watch the ad, it has nothing to do with that.

Another ad could be a Richard Sherman ad showcasing Body Armor. I think this ad could be good for me, because it shows a lot of the traits we discussed in class, such as color, focal point, and many more, and I also really enjoy their product.

Finally, I like the ad from the Google Drive folder, The Future Was Yesterday, from Nike. I like this ad because it also shows a lot of traits we discussed in class. I really like Nike apparel, and I think that doing my essay over a Nike ad would be good for me, I just have to find one ad, out of hundreds, to fit me and this paper well, and I think this might be one that will work for me.

I recently received an email about Ball State’s jazz band performing in Pruis Hall. The argument is for them to have a good attendance at there performance. The admission is free, so they are just trying to get people to come out and see the work they have put in to have a good jazz band. The author I assume is the jazz teacher, or someone at Ball State, who runs the music department. The audience is for anyone who is a student at Ball State, and maybe for people around the Muncie area who have been involved with the music department, or just music around this area. I have nothing to do with music here at Ball State, so I am just assuming that this was a mass email sent around the entire university. To me I don’t think there is a rhetorical exigency. If it wasn’t for this assignment I would have probably never opened the email, therefore I would have never replied, and I still feel no need to reply. I think that this email was just sent to people, so that the jazz band can show the craft they have been practicing for however long they have been practicing.

I think Taylor met a guy at a party or something, on then had “love at first sight.” She then goes on to talk about him being her “next mistake.” So, she has had a bad past with her previous boyfriend’s. She also says “so it’s going to be forever, or it’s going to go down in flames.” I think that she thinks she will either marry this guy, or it will be a disaster and a bad break up. I think that she is the problem with all of her boyfriend’s, in the sense that it’s always a bad breakup, because breakups aren’t always bad, but it seems for her, that she is always going through a bad breakup. She has multiple songs saying that she was treated wrong, but maybe she just needs to take a look in the mirror, and she might see that it is her problem that she is always being treated as poorly as she think she is.

Going into this essay, I thought it was going to be a difficult one to write. Before I started, I was having a really difficult time trying to brainstorm on what to write about, but once I figured out what I wanted to write, it all just flowed. The most difficult part of this paper for me was writing the introduction, it took me a long time to write it, but once I really got into the paper, it just felt like it was coming naturally, and I feel like a good essay in no time at all, which is very unusual for me. I had fun writing this paper. I got to learn more about my family that I never knew before, and I also learned some stuff that I never thought of to know why we do the things that we do. I actually had a lot of fun doing my interviews too. Speaking with my grandma, grandpa, and aunt, we had some really good conversations. Overall I am glad that we did this paper, and I feel that I got better as a writer

Some focused points about my topic are that I celebrate Christmas every year with my family, and we also have the same meal every year. It is also celebrated with the same people every year. With a couple exceptions, my mom recently divorced my dad, so he no longer celebrates with us at my grandparents. Also, my aunt recently got engaged, and her fiancé has only been celebrating with us for the past two years. I think my thesis will include why and where I celebrate Christmas, who I celebrate with, the traditional meal, how my family members and I see how the future holds with us, and changes in our celebration over the years. This particular subject is important to me, because Christmas is my favorite holiday, and celebrating it with my favorite people makes it very special to me. I hope to continue celebrating with my family, and maybe someday have my own family to bring with me and celebrate with.

What is unique about my subject? I will be talking about how my family and I all gather on Christmas Eve every year. That part is pretty common, but what is unique about my family is that we have the same exact meal every year, and it only involves my family.

What does the subject “say” about life in this place and time? I like to think that my family and I are a really close family, closer than most families. As far back as I can remember, my grandparents have always went to my brother and I’s sporting events, and when some of my friends made a big deal about their grandparents attending, it was weird for me, because it was ordinary. I think this just shows how close my family actually is with one another. So when we gather for Christmas every year, it’s not a big deal to me, but to someone else it would be a big deal.

What do people normally experience, understand, or assume about this subject? I think that most people celebrate people with their family, but it might not mean as much to them as it does to me. Going to my grandparents house on Christmas Eve, is by far, my favorite part of the holidays.

This weekend I took a trip up to Purdue, to hang out with some of my friends. On Saturday we went to the football game. Ross-Ade Stadium was electric. This weekend was Purdue’s homecoming, so naturally there were a lot of people present at this game. Purdue was taking on ranked opponent Boston College. Purdue was off to a slow start this year, and people were nervous going into this game, but from start to end, the atmosphere was incredible. Everywhere you looked all you saw was black and gold and the big “P” on people’s shirts. The game started off hot with the kickoff and everyone in the student section chanting, “IU sucks.” This will be game I never forget, because of the energy of the stadium. I believe that the fans gave the Purdue football team the boost they needed to get back on track. With the fans cheering as loud as they could it brought all of the energy to the team, and it showed with not only a win, but a dominating one at that. Ross-Ade stadium was beautiful, from the giant scoreboard to the actual field. Purdue actually has a grass field, but with how well it is taken care of, it looks like a turf field.
