When I first came into Ball State, I wasn’t much of a writer. During high school I never pushed myself to become a better writer or even challenge myself in the English subject. I always took the “easy” English classes, because I felt that I wasn’t good at English and couldn’t get a good grade in the honors English classes. Taking this class I figured out that I actually enjoyed writing a little bit, and I wasn’t that bad at it. I don’t feel as if I have really applied myself in this class as I could have, but I still got a pretty decent grade, and I got pretty good grades on all of my essays.

Writing the essays came very natural to me for some reason. I didn’t spend a lot of time on any of the essays, and I got a pretty good grade on all of them. If I would have really applied myself to the two that we could have revised, I feel as if I could have gotten an A on both of them easily. Instead, I decided to be lazy and not edit one of them, and to do very little editing to the other one. This was just me being lazy and not wanting to do it, because I had plenty of time to do both of them, but I decided that the grade I got was good enough for me.

My writing process has changed just because of these blog posts. I used to always just pick a topic, then not think about what I was going to write until the night before it was due. With the blog posts, I would choose my topic, and then write about it a little bit way before it was due. I even wrote part of some of my papers in the blog post we would do. I really enjoyed doing these blog posts actually. It kept me thinking about my essay, and it was an easy five points every time we had one.

I think the most challenging thing about the class was the final essay. For a long time I had no idea what to write about. My blog posts grade even took a hit, because I wasn’t doing them because I didn’t know what to write about. Once I got my topic, I wrote the paper in one sitting, rather fluently with no blocks.

If I could tell the next 103 students anything about the class, it would be to relax. I came into college really stressed out, because all you hear is how hard college is. To me, the hardest part has been applying myself. When I have applied myself, I haven’t had one bad grade, it is when I don’t apply myself that gets me into trouble.

One thing I learned from this class was to plan my writing ahead of time. I never planned anything until we started these blog posts. I appreciate writing these posts, and I actually enjoy writing them most of the time. I hope as my time goes on at Ball State, I will continue to plan ahead my writing and make it easy for myself.

I really did enjoy this class, even though I didn’t want to come someday’s. This class felt like a relief to some of my other classes. I have some classes where I will go into the class, and the teacher will lecture the whole time making it very boring. With this class I felt it was a good balance of teaching and having some fun. I felt as if I learned, while actually enjoying sitting in the class.

Out of all papers this year, this one was the worst for me. I didn’t necessarily enjoy anything about the paper. I think the thing that I enjoyed the most, was writing about a person who had a huge impact on my life, and it was someone I had a really good relationship, and I think he does a great job, when most of the other people in the community thinks otherwise. I am just glad to get the writing from this essay out of the way.

In high school, people, mostly parents, take wins and losses way too seriously. The fact is that most high school students won’t grow up to be a professional sports player, or even a college athlete. The odds are so small for one to play sports past high school. A high school coach should teach their athletes way more than just the sport itself, but also to prepare them for life after high school. My high school has a really good football coach, but if you talked to the parents you wouldn’t believe that. He teaches his athletes way more than just playing it sport itself, but also what to expect after high school.

For my essay I think I am going to write about my high school’s football coach. He gets a lot of hate from a lot of parents, because of the wins and losses, but what they don’t see is what he does for each one of his students and players. My high school football team was average at best, but what he taught me during my time playing for him, is something that I will remember for the rest of my life. I think the greatest argument for wanting the coach to be fired is the amount of wins and losses he has. This past year the team had 3 wins and 8 losses, but the amount of life lessons he teaches each of his players are something that wins and losses can’t compete with. During my time I learned a lot about work ethic, hard work, relationships, and much much more. These are stuff that I will forever be grateful for, and even after football season was over, I could still count on him to help me with whatever I needed. My coach has shaped me into the person that I am today, and I will forever remember the time that I played for him.

I actually still live at home, I am not the normal college kid who lives on campus. I chose to live at home because I don’t live too far from campus, and in the long run it will save me a lot of money. My bedroom at home is set up nicely for me to get a lot of work done in there. I usually always keep it clean, minus the chair where I put some of my clothes because I’m too lazy to actually put them away. I keep my bed made, and the floors clean. I play video games a lot so I have a nice desk with my tv and playstation on it, and it has a sliding place to keep a keyboard. I usually use the sliding shelf to put my laptop on and do homework, and I have plenty of room to write out my work on this shelf if I need to. I think my room is a good place to relax, and to do my work.

I think American Idol is good for popular music. It showcases artists music and gives them attention, and also shows the singing talent of the person covering the popular music. It brings attention to both the artist and the singer, to help bring their music to more people.

This essay to me was surprisingly fun. Going into it I didn’t see myself liking this essay very much, but the more we learned in class, the more interested I got into doing this essay. I think the best part for me, was taking what we learned it class, and then taking it and applying it to my essay. I didn’t really find anything about this essay unfun, besides the beginning of the assignment, where I had to find an ad to write about. There were a lot of ads that I wanted to write about, and the one I ultimately ended up using was one found in the Google Drive folder. I was dead set on doing the Kaepernick ad, but I was just exploring and ended up going into the folder, and ended up really liking the Gatorade boxing ad. i thought this ad included a lot of the qualities of a good ad that we talked about in class, and it ended up being really easy to talk about, and put into 1000 words. I think this assignment was positive and negative, because now I will catch myself seeing an ad, and fully analyzing it, instead of just enjoying it. Overall, I really enjoyed the assignment.

I think the greatest use of persuasion in my ad is pathos. The way I see the ad, is that Gatorade is showing that they are dominant to all types of sports drinks, whether it be water, as shown in the ad, or Powerade, their greatest competitor. To me, I feel like Gatorade is the superior sports drinks, and it brings out pathos by showing me the Gatorade bottle standing over the knocked out water bottle. It is showing me the confidence that Gatorade has in themselves to not only make a good drink, but then to show themselves as the greatest company to make these sports drinks

I think one form of logos used in the ad, is the “Gatorade Always Wins,” in the top left corner of the ad. When you see this, you might ask yourself, do they really always win? So you might do some research and you will find, they do in fact always win, meaning that they sell more than their competitors.

Finally, I think the Ethos in this ad is just the brand themself. Everyone has heard of Gatorade and knows who it is, and the way that this ad is presenting themselves, it makes you think that Gatorade is the greatest sports drink, because nobody can compete with them.

10/26

I assume the author of my ad is the marketing team at Gatorade, and their main focus is to appeal to the mass public, and try to persuade them to buy their product. I think the audience is anyone in the world that enjoys sports, or boxing in general. The way this ad is made, I think it is showing that Gatorade is the superior sports drink, compared to all other drinks, and it shows this by having the Gatorade bottle stand over the “knocked out” water bottle. That also goes in with the argument, in that their argument is that they have the greatest sports drink, and it is better than all other sports drinks. I think that the Gatorade bottle standing over the water bottle is the most important part of the ad. It shows that Gatorade is dominant to the water, and it plants a seed in our mind that Gatorade is better, and why would we drink anything else? I personally really enjoy Gatorade products, and this ad just makes me want to drink more Gatorade than any other sports drink. I also really enjoy this ad, because Gatorade is saying that they are the dominant sports drink.

I am doing a Gatorade boxing ad. The first thing that I see when I look at this image, is the Gatorade bottle standing over the water bottle, as if the water bottle is knocked out. Some visual elements that pop out to me are the color and text. Everything in the ad is kind of dark, except for the gatorade bottle, which is a bright yellow and really pops out. The text in the image is also really bold, and when reading it, it makes your eyes naturally wonder to the Gatorade bottle. Framing and focal point also stand out to me. With the framing of this ad, the Gatorade bottle is standing in the middle of the boxing ring, and the ropes come to the Gatorade bottle. The focal point is also quite obviously the Gatorade bottle, and they show this with how bright the bottle is compared to everything else in the picture, and how it is right in the middle. I also think there is symbolism in this ad, because it shows the Gatorade bottle “knocking out” the water bottle. Realistically you can’t knock out a water bottle, but in the ad it is showing that Gatorade is superior to water and any other drinks.
